Stephen Dennis reports from the Facebook group Ride Barnsley.
This week's short walk around Barnsley... little treat inspired by the Cudworth Community Walking Map... cheers Chris Fox (Editors note: Cudworth Walking Maps envisioned by Andrew Scattergood, History facts supplied by Cliff Gorman, Maps designed by Chris Fox with supporting photos as credited in the maps).
I'm going to let you into a little secret not many know about. Find Carlton Marsh nature reserve... there is small free car park just along Shaw Lane after the Vehicle Dismantling yards.
Walk through to the Track bed of the former Hull and Barnsley line. This opens you up to a wonderful Oasis. We saw a fox 🦊 hunting in the fields and plenty of birds on the reserve. I'll take my binoculars next time.
We then joined the Midland Main Line that brings you out at Cudworth Parkway. This time we walked up the Cycling path and entered Cudworth Park. We then returned down the Bridleway to the Hull and Barnsley. A really fascinating area to go and explore.
Cudworth is really underestimated place for walking, cycling and riding. The map was really helpful Chris, giving heritage information and we found the heron I've cycled past 30 times and never noticed. Check it out”.
